First in Flight Apiary

Sugar Grove, NC

First In Flight Apiary is a craft producer of wildflower honey in the mountains of North Carolina, dedicated to sustainably crafting exquisite wildflower honey. Beekeeping is a time-honored tradition that maintains the balance of nature and promotes a balanced ecosystem. It is the commitment to history and tradition that lead me on this design journey.

Concept To Print

The Piper J3 Cub, a light and versatile aircraft dating back to the late 1930’s. The J3 was painted bright yellow and brought inspiration to the design and was flown by both the owner and his late father.

Using the lightning bolt painted on the side of the J3 as a design element within the label itself and on the lid to tie everything together. Ironically the J3 was notoriously slower than most aircraft.

The final sketch shows the inclusion of a honeycomb pattern, the J3 Cub, and the lightning bolt. “First in Flight” is a tip of the hat to not only bee’s being a necessary part of the ecosystem but to the Wright brother who first flew an aircraft on the coast of NC.

The brand styling for First in Flight bridges the gap between the past and the future, evoking a sense of nostalgia and anticipation. Embodied within the design are the harmonious spirits of humanity and nature, both soaring through the skies. The rich hues of gold and the velvety beige serve as a delectable reminder of the luscious creaminess found in every drop of honey, while the contrasting depth of the darker grey grounds us firmly to the earth. With every element meticulously crafted, this brand seamlessly unifies the essence of time and the wonders of nature into a captivating tapestry of visual delight.
